Collection: Pyramids

An absolute staple in German Christmas - The Pyramid.

The first pyramids as we know them today, made their appearance around 1800, the origin of it goes back to the Middle Ages though. The idea was to avert evil during the dark time of year (winter) with the help of evergreen branches like boxwood or light. The pyramid united both customs and became a symbol for Christmas. Originally the pyramid consisted of four sticks, wrapped with green branches, lit with candles and hung with glittering objects. Sounds familiar? Later on, the Christmas tree took over that role.
